Tyre change soon! Have Dunlops on 17' split rims at the moment and am after a mix of ride quality and longevity. What are my options? The Dunlops have lasted well, but then again I don't do particularly high annual milages, but am prone to punctures (a joy of doing most of my daily mileage on A and B roads I suspect)!

Were Dunlops the OE tyres fitted in '98? Continentals seem a decent option.

Dunno - it's not something I care about when I'm buying tyres.
I get maybe 15K miles out of mine.

Opinions vary, but #1 for me buying tyres is the amount of grip.
One day they might save someone's life.

Previously, I had used Pirellis on all my previous cars, but
this BMW came with Continentals and I've happily stuck with them.
I think the Contis are OEM fit.

I had an ex demo 523i in 99 and that had Contis as did my current 525i which I got new Jan 02. Have stuck with Contis and they have been excellent, good grip and last pretty well - and I've never had a puncture with plenty of time on A and B roads. Not sure if I am lucky or you are unlucky!

My E39 540i touring was originally fitted with Continental Sports but I found that these tramlined noticeably on undulating country roads.Swapped to Michelin Primacy tyres which were less sporty but gave a much better ride and the tramlining disappeared.
