Now i am thinking of putting in new seats in my MK5 golf, few questions really if anyone can help. is it costly to install them? my car currently does not beep if the seatbelt is not worn due to it not having that feature, with the new seats can this be turned on?

Another thing to remember is that some of the seats on the MKV have airbags installed which can make changeover more complex.

I guess it all depends on what features your seats currently have and what seats your going to install. Assuming all the wiring is their for the new features you will need VAG.COM to enable / disable

i think seat airbags are standard in Mk5 golfs. my car currently has them and obviously im hoping to get seats with them. if the wiring is there can my car run this feature? how much would the stealer charge to fit etc?

Not all MK5 Golfs have airbags in the seats although the majority do.

My R32 has the optional Recaro seats and thse do not have airbags.

How much would a dealer charge? How long is a piece of string?

Prices vary so much dealer to dealer it's hard to say. Best idea is to get a local indy to help you out.

Do you really want the 'bong' noise when you're not wearing a seatbelt?

It gets REALLY annoying - if you have anything heavy on the passenger seat it makes it go off. Also when you're moving the car and don't need the seatbelt it still makes the noise. It really bugs me!

The reason I like that feature is that it's the only thing that gets my mother-in-law to wear a flaming seat belt!

The optional Recaros are hard backed and don'y have side airbags. It's a compromise I accepted based on I sit in the seat everyday and the side airbag may never be needed. You pays our money you takes your choice.

You may actually find the seats you have already have the functionality and it just need enabled using VAG.COM. I certainly check before going through the expense of changing seats

ive checked cuprabob, the seats dont have the functionally, but will the car with the new seats? i personally wouldnt take the risk with the seats as you never know when you'll need the airbag in the seat

As I say you pays your money you takes your chance. IMO the Recaros look the business and are very comfortable, heated and leather so I can live without an airbag in the seat. I'm sure the curtain airbags will do OK.

Oh and the other sacrifice I had to make with these seats was not to have the seat belt warning beep :-)

Good luck whatever you choose to do with your seats
