Alloy wheels

I have recently purchased a 54 318Ci MSport coupe which has the standard M39 ? alloy wheels. Is it my imagination or are these wheels rough cast, they do seem very rough finish. I have used a claybar on them and although what appeared to be a load of muck came off they are still quite rough to the touch.
