I was my 5 with autoglym but recently noticed when rinsing off the black paint is looking dull and misty as if it has a coating on it. Do I need to use that blu-tack stuff to take the old wax off?

I've got a Brilliant black 94 Eunos. It was a right state when I got it.

However it did respond very well to good clay bar job, a bit of rubbing down in places, then re-polishing and waxing. Theres lots of guides online about this type of work.

Set aside a warm day and you'll be surprised what you can achieve even without powertools.

While I've not been able to fix all the swirling, mines now much glossier and shiner than when I bought it for not a lot of outlay.

Autoglym is only so-so. The ultra gloss protection is good but the rest is average at best. Meguires is much better for the same price.

The bonnet on mine has a god awful finish, it's like sandpaper. Years of abuse/neglect, I think. Bird droppings, etc. I'm just going to have it resprayed, along with the bumper

Mines gone past that stage even - in places the clear coat has gone completely and the red colour coat has cracked into loads of little shapes, showing mostly the white undercoat. Doesn't seem to affect it though as it still seems to have some sort of matt coating over it all.

Red cars seem to be a bugger for turning pink and then white frown

My old Corrado did that. And my friends at the time didn't comment one bit on its, er, pinkness!

As a temporary fix, the coloured polish can make a slight improvement. Otherwise, if it's already too thin tea cut will only bring more white undercoatedness alas!

yesfrown Sounds similar to mine, though the only place on mine where its really bad is above the rear wheels. The right guard is gradually expanding the flaking area as whenever it rains the water gets in under the clearcoat and forms bubbles everywhere. The left side has a white patch about the size of my hand now frown

Oh my god I feel for you guys. Mine has the swirling too, no paint flaking yet only on the bumper which I intend to get re-sprayed first. I think will use the clay bar first, have already got meguiars last minute detailing and that always works well. But will try the meguiars car wash. Autoglym does not lather up enough. I have just had battery replaced with a westco one yesterday from Griffins in bury, £80.50 and today have replaced the headlight rims and hammerited the boot as the condensation caused surface rust in the battery area. Just waiting for it to dry now. I thought everyone else's 5 was immaculate. Wish I had a garage!
