Due to issues with holidays, I've just been told by the other half tht she has booked off two weeks at the beginning of May. This is a month or so sooner than expected so I need to sort something PDQ.

We're looking to go down to the Alps type area to take in the views and the roads. We can eitehr just wing it and find places each day or book a villa.

Could the ph massiv give me any advice on experiences for places to go/stay? I had even thought about just going and spending few days in different location taking in places like Riemmes on the way down.

Budget is an issue, we dont want to be spending 2k+ on this trip

I did this a few years ago..

Booked an apartment in Chamonix for 5 days.... not too expensive and its an awsome place for walking, biking, general chilling out... Perfect for all fitness levels!

We drove down cross country with no planned route stopping whereever we wanted and crashing in fields or campsites when we found them...

Once we had finished in Chamnoix we took two days to wiggle our way on a random route to Marseille.... Awsome Awsome roads up through Val-deseire etc...

Just go play smile

Just be careful with the snow - most Alpine routes are still not passable in May. Friend of mine made this mistake last year. Made the Long trip only to find them still closed !
