Had a few problems with my pc slowing down. Outlook Express takes forever to open up. It was also disconnecting from the net when I clicked 'send and recieve'. I sorted that but now I can't use the Search function. The page 'can't be displayed' and I get an error message and am asked to sent it to microsoft.

I have Norton 2003 installed and a full scan finds nothing but something is going on.

Has anybody got any suggestions they could pass on. I reckon there's an infection somewhere. Thanks.

Have you run Adaware6 and Spybot Search and Destroy?
If not, download them. They are both free for personal use.
I have seen computers slow to a crawl because they are choked with trojans competing for the resources.

Rjo, are there links to these sites because as I said, my Search function has stopped functioning? Thanks gents.

Oh right after posting this post I got an Ebay web page. Has Ted linked to Ebay or is this a part of my pc's problem?

I've just installed Spybot and it's blocked 150 bad cookies etc. I'm looking at the Adaware in a moment!

The Adaware has dealt with 65 trackers, great.

I still can't use Search in Internet Explorer though. Keep getting a window saying 'action cancelled' or page can't be found and an error reports been generated. Any other ideas guy's/gals?

Are there any other problems with IE, for instance with any other webpages?

I don't use the search button in IE, tend to do most of it from www.google.co.uk.

Hello Richard, it's a bit strange. Sometimes on Pistonheads I get an Ebay page/popup at the taskbar. I never had that before. Whenever I try to use search (clicking the icon at the top of the page)I just get not available, or action cancelled. Sometimes I get a window to send an error message to microsoft. I can't check past searches either. The Spybot has found a lot of naughty things which I think are blocked now. I have also shut down a few applications which were running on startup, in the back ground. I'm stumped with the search problem though. I can search via google but not I/E?

I have also noticed something to do with eBay popping up on here - assume it helps Ted with the costs of PH.

Someone else correct me if this is wrong, but the IE search button brings up a box using MSN search, hence Microsoft's Internet browser having a shortcut to something else owned by Microsoft. I just keep www.google.co.uk as my homepage so I can just click on the housey button whenever I want to search for something.

Sending an error message to Microsoft is more serious though as this is the application crashing. If you are not already you could update to the latest IE / service pack / patches (windowsupdate.microsoft.com)?

It may be the case that your system has been bogged down with too many unwanted things running. Unfortunately wiping the hard drive and installing everything again tends to be the best option here.

Sorry I can't suggest a simple solution.
