Picked up a 1999 Passat with the 90hp TDi engine in it at the weekend, all seems well but when i moved the car off the drive this morning i find a very small deposit of oil under the car.

Checked the ground at dinner time here at the office and there isn't anything there, will check again when i leave in 40 minutes or so.

I've done a bit of reading online and some suggestions so far are the intercooler pipes and oil cooler pipes. With the engine being a diesel am i right in thinking i can just jetwash that sucker so i can easily find where the leak might be coming from or is that not a smart thing to do?

Any help appreciated.

Regards

Tim

PS, if anyone is in S.Yorks knows the 1.9tdi's and fancies earning a few beer tokens by all means get in touch.

Bottom intercooler hose oil leaks are quite common, you can do the clean off and re-check method, i take it you have removed the engine undertray if there is one fitted(there should be).

The oil filter housing is easy to check too, at the front top of the engine under the plastic cover. it can weep a little if it hasnt been properly tightened or the sealing ring replaced after an oil change.

Slightly bigger puddle this morning, i have to drive to sheffield and back this evening i hope it doesn't get too bad and i have to call out the RAC.

Fingers crossed, i've actually just booked it in on Thursday with a local mechanic because i really cannot be bothered to mess around with it at all.

There is alot of oil around the turbo and intercooler join as well as near the oil filter so i've no idea.

Well it would like i've gone and bought myself a bit of a pup!! ARSE!

Sump Gasket is the first culprit but the garage aren't sure because it's liking a hell of a lot of oil, so it looks like i'm sinking a lot more money into this piece of st than i first thought! grrreat!
