I just read a post elsewhere that the 2009 championship has been canned?? is there any truth in this if so it a bloody shamefrown

I'd be suprised by that - £2900 + VAT for all your seasons entry fees, 4 tyres and championship registration. Its not really expensive compared to the money Renault are charging for the Clio Cup, or even Ginetta for the G50's - bare in mind it would have been the fastest pukka touring car class in the country this season - with the spec upgrades they are about 1-1.5 secs a lap quicker than a BTCC car.

I think we're going to look at doing the Spanish series with the same cars, and possibly the UK round of the Eurocup at Brands in July.

A reflection of the economy, I heard yesterday that there are only 7 cars entered for the first round of British GT's at the moment and a certain team running in a TOCA support class have just had to buy 6 entries to the season for their 3 cars - simply so the championship will actually happen! Not good news.

Thats a real shame Tim we were looking forward to see the Seats at Combe this year,and a real bummer for those who shelled out for the upgrade to the cars.

I didn't realise they wewre quicker than BTCC! There's always the LMA EuroSaloons series, they would go well in that, and maybe the organisers would let you have your own sub class - they do for the last generation Clios.

A well driven and set up one with is a potential race winner in Production S1 of Britcar as well, quite easily.

Sadly though just because something is faster than doesnt mean its better or more worth doing. Thats partly where the sport has gone stark raving mad in the last few years. The big issue now is getting back to affordability not status.

Tim its a real shame the SEAT series is'nt going ahead now, I know your dad and his mates tried very hard to get it going and came up with some good ideas to make it more affordable but the fact remains the cars are expensive and without TOCA don't have the profile to justify the cost, in a different eccomonic climate I'm sure they would have made it work and I for one am very sorry about that for the effort your dad put in.

Hi Nigel, only have one race planned, in a Juno at Donington in a few weeks, after that nothing. Was going to buy a car to race but I have no where to store and run one and certainly can't fund a team to do it so I'm sort of stuck helping everyone else again. How about you, will you be joining Andy in some races?

that is a real shame I was at the test day at Caslte coombe last friday.
was great to be on track with them the cars really are quick.

They are superb cars, and a good bunch running it, hope they get something sorted out, will be good for use in Britcar...

SeatCopra Cup was cancelled this week, it will now be called the Britcar SeatCup and will be run in the Britcar Production Championship 2009 starting at Donington on the first weekend of Maysmile

I refer you back to late last year when Britcar announced the Seat Cup would run in Britcar. The reason that did'nt take off is because Production S1 of Britcar is very expensive and the rules are pretty much open which is very unnatractive unless you have no where else to go with your weapon of choice.

It looks like the circuit is now gonna hold an open sports and saloon race to replace the Seat championship on Mayday,going by past efforts and the cost only being £100 i expect it'll fill pretty quicklysmile

Just thinking out loud really for no particular reason but, seeing as BTCC has now gone down the route of 2 litre turbocharged engines, how far away from BTCC spec are the Seat Supercopa cars? ie could someone buy a Supercopa car and convert it to BTCC spec for an "affordable" (cough, its all realtive) BTCC car for a privateer to buy almost off the shelf.

The BTCC engine is a bespoke engine - it doesn't matter what car you run, it will have the "NGTC" engine:

The ‘Next Generation Touring Car’ (NGTC) regulations will come into force in 2011 and will slash car and engine budgets for teams by some 50 per cent. This will largely be achieved by switching to more durable two-litre turbo engines and the standardising of major components such as sub-frames, gearboxes, suspension and brakes. Furthermore, the NGTC regulations will be based around larger ‘family-sized’ front-wheel-drive cars.

Notably, the NGTC engines will utilise many standard-production internal components and be fitted with a controlled-specification turbo, wastegate, intercooler and ECU (Electronic Control Unit) to reduce both development costs and opportunities for technical infringements. Teams not wishing to undertake their own engine development programme will have the option of using a TOCA-developed (unbranded) NGTC engine that will be equal in performance. It is anticipated that engines should last an entire season without rebuild, thus greatly further reducing costs.

The regulations will move the BTCC away from the Super 2000-specification cars used in the championship in recent years (based on those in the FIA’s World Touring Car series) and have been voted through unanimously by teams in the championship.

Current S2000 cars will still compete on an equal basis with the ‘Next Gen’ machines, for outright honours, with both types of cars having their performances equalised until 2013 when those running to NGTC-specification will be given more engine power.

TOCA can supply a "spec" NGTC engine (currently developd by Swindon Racing Engines & based on a Vauxhall unit) but that does not preclude manufactureres buildng their own NGTC 2 litre Turbo engine. The fact is, that VAG already have a similar beast.

Initial discussions with TOCA suggest that the Supercopa cars will not be elegible without work as they will require the standardised sub frames etc
