Can any of you tell me what port Kazaa uses? I'm having trouble getting anything to download since installing a hardware firewall.

So far the kazaa search facility will work and connects as normal, however once I start downloading it fails and states "more sources required".

Also do any of you have any other sites you use for music/film download?

Thanks

Jo

Sounds as though it's working, the "more sources required" bit refers to there being no file available online to download but will search for more, it'll be on a 30sec loop for checking. When it finds another source it'll continue the download.

Anyway I believe it's the TCP 1214 port for Kazaa but Kazaa usually configures itself on install IIRC. Are you using Kazaa Lite too? (no spyware on this).

Yes I'm using Kazaa Lite, I get your point about the 'more sources' but I'm getting this on everything I try to download. I've even tried downloading some dodgy 80's songs to make sure this wasn't because there were millions of other people trying to get the same song!

Port 1214 is open on the firewall.

Any other suggestions?

You can only download things if there are others online with the same files. You'll always get better results overnight (USA wide awake) though.

If it's Music then use something like WinMX it's a different piece of P2P software to use and if it's movies you're after then something eDonkey network based like eMule or Shareaza.

Kazaa has a lot but it can be a bit hit and miss.

Edited to add, dodgy 80's songs aren't normally going to be found easily (I had a pain trying to find some old Blondie tracks a while back), try a current chart MP3 that is likely to be popular at the moment.

Still no joy, tried mainstream chart stuff, 80's and even a couple of the tracks I had already downloaded before changing the firewall. Still getting the same response on everything. Humph!

Probably related to the firewall then, what type do you have as someone might have had this problem before.

Just a idea but have run Kazaa before on your ISP (assume home PC) or is this the first time as some ISP's do block port 1214 to stop file sharing (people like AOL do this). You could try and run the Kazaasupernodes app which comes with Klite as I think this can search for alternative ports (never needed to try it though).

Couple of ideas...

Have you tried running Kazaa without the firewall running? If it works then its the firewall that just needs configuring...

Have you recently run Ad-aware or similar type programme? I have had problems running the full version of kazaa (spyware version). Ad-aware deleted some files that it needed to "spy" and then it stopped working. Solved this by getting Kazaa Lite, doesn't come with spyware...

If I turn the hardware firewall off then it works exactly as it did before. I am running Kazaa Lite ++. It seems to use more than just port 1214.

Does anyone else manage to use Kazaa sucessfully with a hardware firewall? If so, can you tell me how?

If you're running a hardware firewall (probably a broadband router if you're at home) then you may need to do some port direction so that 1214 gets directed to 1214 on your PC.

Had a similar issue with Netmeeting
