I know the base prive for the 300bhp V6 is around £27,000. But whats the price on the 6.2 V8,and when is availability?

Base SS is $29,995 + Tag, Title and Taxes - It'll be $35k when all's said and done.
I bet that equates to something like 35,000 quid in the UK.

It's 'available', now. Courtesy Chevrolet in Orlando have a yellow one in their showroom. I suspect they are now inviting bids on it over list - rather like Dodge did with the SRT Challenger - that they can't shift anymore. Anyone who pays over list is out of their f*cking mind.

MSRP is $30995. Traditionally, dependemt on availability, dealers get an allocation and the fiirst year is generally reserved for those prepared to pay $20000 over list for the honour of having one. This is because dealers are independent and can charge what they like. You generally find that this "scabbing" is reserved for the top line models like the SS and the Shelby GT500. If you recall, even Top Gear had to pay $10000 over the odds to get that Challenger RT.

I once foolishly criticised the practice as being downright disgusting on a US forum. Surprisingly, many replies indicated that Americawas built on capitalism and God Bless any dealer who could sell their cars for more money as it was the American way. Then again there were equal numbers who simply didn't buy a car. Now Ford and Chevy are desperate for sales, it will be interesting to see iof this sort of scabbing ends. Somehow I doubt it.

In general, you can get the V6s at list or below.

They upped the price by a grand in the last 4/6 weeks, then.

As for availability, my local (Central FL) dealer has two in stock and I'm up in Indiana right now and followed a silver SS on I-70 this afternoon, so they are on the street.
What is odd is that Chevy swore there would be no 'phased introduction', as with the Challenger, but this seems not to have been the case. Frankly, I'm mildly surprised that they didn't mothball the whole launch, in the hope of less horrendous economic temperatures in the future. This is supposed to be an accessible car for the blue-collared masses - a lot of them are fighting to keep their jobs and stay out of foreclosure - not a great time to launch a gas guzzling, tarmac tearing, f*ck you you f*cking f*ck hot-rod.

I hope you will have ordered one then, in orange of course.
