ok so Dragstar hosted at Canada, forgot to make it private and we were intrigued by the foreigner's foreign chat and the down-right rudeness of them crashing into us.

Oh was that only me I was spinning and returning to the track alot

After reading all this GPL nonsense, I decided to buy a copy from pcworld - £2.99, so not bad.

Can I just say that I'm hopeless!

If I use the keyboard, my fat little hands can't fit onto that little keypad all together - I end up hitting many keys in the wrong order and at the wrong time.

I hauled my old joystick out and I'm even worse with that, constantly over correcting myself despite the non-linear thing being on least sensitive.

I'm not going out to buy a steering wheel for one poxy game.

If only they would allow you to assign any keys for the control of the car rather than just the ones on the keypad - would make life so much easier.

Been practicing at Brands and my arms aching after wrestling with my joystick, but this leads to my question -

The game crashes every so often for no reason, just stops and spits me out at the desktop, any ideas as to why it does this?

Byff, you stand no chance on the keyboard. The joystick will be a bit better but it's not intuitive I found.

I didn't want to fork out on a wheel so I bought a Gravis Xterminator gamepad. The thing that makes it better for GPL than other gamepads are the flippers on the front of the pad which you operate with your index fingers. They map on to one of the analogue channels so give you fine control of the accelerator and brake.

The only issue is that the new one doesn't appear to have an analogue thumb joystick which my older version does. Maybe you can still buy an older one from somewhere.

What system spec are you running it on? You'll need the patches from downloads page at www.papy.com
If you are trying to drive GPL using keyboard you will find it very difficult! I managed to get used to an analogue joystick to start with, but a wheel is the only way you'll get the most out of it - specially one with good force feedback.

Going to trawl through and d/l the patches then off to buy a gamepad, aka Playstation style.

I've found I've much better control of the thumb rather than the whole arm/hand.

You might see me racing soon - but i'll still be shite
