A4 Convertible suspension play?

My wifes A4 convertible 2004 1.8T Sport 42k miles can sometimes feel like it has some play in the suspension somewhere, particularly on bumpy corners.
Someone told me there's a suspension arm that fails - is this true?
There also seems to be some uneven tyre wear on one of the rears (can't remember which).
I'm technically pretty savvy so if I need to jack it up and check balljoints etc I can do this - but some pointers where to look would be useful.

I've also got a clutch judder issue but I think this has been pretty well covered elsewhere and needs a minimum of a new clutch if we want it to go away. The biting point is pretty high anyway.
