Hi
I have a 93 4.0 Chim that i can't turn the factory embedded TVR alarm off - it's the type where you need to turn the door locks a particular way with the key. Does anybody know which way and if i should be pushing the lock down at the same time. I usually use the seperate alarm and never use the TVR alarm.

Thanks Lee

OK..

the car is "unlocked" or "locked and alarmed" with the key slot "horizontal"..

to lock (or unlock it) from there.. put the key in the lock, rotate it (without pushing) anticlockwise 90 degrees. the keyslot will now be vertical.

Now push the key and lock button into the door an inch and then rotate it clockwise 180 degrees still pushed in. You will hear the lock working, see side repeaters blinking etc.

Now release pressure so the lock comes "out" again, then return the key to the "horizontal position, by rotating anticlockwise 90 degrees, and then remove the key.

The trick to this alarm system is if the car is unlocked, you can lock it again without setting the alarm, by putting the key in, and rotating the lock 90 degrees clockwise (without pushing the lock in), then removing the key.

This locks the car, but doesn't set the alarm.

Hope that helps.

Cheers
Matt.

Thanks Mat

I've pretty much tried all combinations now and the thing is still going off when i open the door. It just doesn't seem to want to disarm. The funny thing is i never use the alrm off the door locks i always use the sperate one i've got with the blippers. So the door locking alarm is always disarmed, so i don't understand that overnight it's armed itself!!

Hmmm... well there is a fault somwhere with the setup then as the TVR alarm is activated by locking the car, and de-activated by unlocking the car.. accordingly you can't get in without de-activating it (unless you leave a window open and lean in to the centre control knob).

I get the impression from your post that the car has two alarms.. ...?? I think perhaps someone has upset the TVR one somehow with the other one.. ..I'd advise a trip to a local auto electricial/alarm specialist I'm afraid.

Cheers
Matt.

Mine has 2 alarms (don't ask how my battery copes with that) and it is indeed possible to get the 2 out of phase
Usually it's just a case of doing the door key handshake, then the 2nd alarm passive arms it's self so you have to disarm that, but with out re-setting the TVR alarm it's the kind of thing that I do in my sleep now, but if your new to this I can imagine it being a nightmare

It does indeed have two alarms - the Tvr one off the door lock and a seperate one over the top which works off a blipper and turns the imobilizer off also.

I never arm the tvr one as i always lock the door using the key but not pushing the lock in - i just turn it till it's vertical so locked then arm the cobra alarm. So for some reason the tvr alarm has armed itself and won't disarm.
