Probably my one and only post on the mazda forum, as I don't usually stray far out of the Cerbera forum.

It was just to say what a nice bunch of drivers the MX5 drivers were at the recent Brands Hatch evening.

Curteous, considerate, and perfect track manners. Quite surprising how well they took the corners too.

Thanks to those that attended for making us all feel welcome!

Next time I pop over Julian I'll chuck you the keys to the MX5, you can go see how much fun they are. sure there is room in that garage for another toy wink

Tempted to sign up for the Bedford one too and hire one of the Max5 cars. I figured it'd be the best way to confirm that's what I want to buy as my track toy.

Anyone have any experience of hiring from MoT?

Eta: Random question, but does anyone know of any track days a '5 with a mild sports exhaust won't pass the noise test for? I realised last week that's a major plus point of something relatively discrete!

Mine easily passes the 100Db limit at the airfield trackdays I use and it has a sports backbox on (IIRC measured as 86Db) = Db scale is of course Logarithmic so this is pretty quiet in relation to the 100Db limit. They only get LOUD when you put a de-cat exhaust on and I would be surprised if these break the 100Db limit...

Mine is loud with aftermarket Racing Beat Dual rear box, 2.25" Larini Sport mid-pipe (without resonator) and 2.25" Larini Sports cat as well as the supercharger and it still sails through db tests.

I think the lowest limit around is 96dB at Bedford, so that would be the target I reckon. smile

If that's the limit at Bedford, mine would fail. I've only got a Larini and back box and was measured at 97 Db at Oulton.

I think a lot of aftermarket exhausts would fail that, it IS quite a low limit.

Might be wrong - it may be 98, but I could swear I heard 96.

Bedford: 101 DB static & Drive By - 87dB at 20m.
They do have a strict "one strike and you're out" policy though so you need to make sure you don't go over the limits.

Even better! Is it safe to assume just about any '5 will pass that?

If mine does then most will. There might be a bit of a problem with IRTBs and cat-bypass on the drive-by but most '5s shouldn't have a problem.

Chris, with regards to MOT - go to the Nurburgring forum you were on and chat to Alclark - hes one of the Mr Mazda On Tracks and by all accounts a good bloke.

good to meet some of you too.

I was there with my missus my track toy MX5 (the red ...well different shades of red +stickers).

Anyone considering an MX5 as a track car go for it. Cheap as chips to buy and repair and with a good fast road set up, they handle sweetly.

FYI - my mx5 with a 4 branch mazda speed manifold, decat and standard 1 baffle back box was 98 db! smile

98db was my 4.5 litre V8 Cerb with no catalysts.

I think their meter must have got stuck on 98 smile
