My car overheated today as I just pulled onto driveway at my house, I opened the bonnet. Coolant is everywhere.

The bottom themostat housing's bottom pipe has broken off... arghh how easy is it to replace ? seeing it sit in the engine block.

the bottom one where the T pipe sit. thats the pipe that came out

And did i pop the headgasket?

Easy - um, er, except I think you may need to whip the timing belt off (change it if it's done more than a few thousand miles).

Basically it's held on with two bolts, but you'll need to remove the timing blet casing front and back (hence belt and cam pulleys off).

Generally, when you have coolant you don't do any damage to the headgasket.....it's when you've boiled dry the problems happen.

No need to do any much more than replace the hose and run it up hot on the drive to ensure it's all fine. It might be worth checking the integrity of the other hoses whilst you're at it.

Must be a common problem, when I changed my thermostat I put it all back together and coolant was going everywhere. I couldnt work out what was wrong, then noticed a tiny hairline crack where the housing hadd gone porous.... Stuck some araldite type compound over both sides of crack , let it dry and hey presto all OK. Been fine for about 5 months now (touch wood)

I am a bit worried about the hose underneath the CAS ring tho that was seaping a while back tho!!
