side runners

Was inspecting my side runners today, took off sills that proved to be a bit of a bugger especially that rusted nut by the footwell. Anyway side runners not corroded but factory coating flaked off. Was going to wire brush the rust off, then coat them with primer and then I thought use denzo tape (that horrible green sticky stuff) to cover the side runners.

Anyone got any other ideas to protect the side runners.

Fergus, I'm in the process of doing my chassis as well as the out riggers. (Outriggers have been waxoyled)
I've removed the loose rust/underseal and treated the metal with a rust preventer, followed by a few coats of smoothrite.
I will only be using the car in fair weather so may or may not be sufficient for you?
