I bought a Sierra clutch kit off Fleabay. I think it said that it was for the V6 but not sure if there's a difference between that and a standard one.
Do check the thrust bearing though! The one I bought was slightly different from my original one. Instead of metal clips, the new one had cheap plastic clips which wouldn't fit.

I am pretty sure the sierra V6 and the 4 cylinder clutch are different sizes - but don't know anything beyond that.
I have a 4 cylinder sierra haynes manual and in there it lists 1.3 and 1.6 models as a 7.5 inch clutch, and 1.8 and 2 litre models as a 8.5in clutch.
If someone can lookup what the V6 clutch diameter is it may help clear this up.

I remember reading something about that too Norman - I am certain Adrian Venn (exactlyTVR) stated there had been issues with standard clutches slipping after being in a short while and as you say some machining work up front prevented this - Tonup it may be worth having a chat with him prior to purchase just to make sure.

Thanks guys. I thought this would be an easy one. Chris the Haynes Sierra V6 manual mentions the 2.8 engine (no 2.9 listed) as 9.5" dia. The Haynes Granada manual notes the 1.8l and 2.0l engines as 8.5" and the V6 as 9.5" (I therefore assume the granada V6 2.8 and 2.9l engines had the same clutch?). I don't quite need the clutch yet but I was hoping to take my time waiting for one on ebay. I will talk to Adrian hopefully he will be able to give me some advice. I will post any definitive information I get. Thanks again.
Thanks Adrian at least my mind isnt going (or at least not yet)

tony when i did mine the clutch that was in there had only done 40k i wanted to change it so i took it to the motor factors he checked the numbers on it and it came out as a 2.8 capri clutch i have the history for mine and i have not got a bill for a replacement so i assume mine was original ken

The flywheels are different... The 2.9 usually has a MT75 gearbox and the flywheel is deeper (and heavier) than that on a 2.8. My S3 has a 2.8 flywheel and someone commented that that is the easiest way to get a 2.9 engine to fit to a type 9 gearbox. Therefore, if I was looking for a new clutch I would certainly go for a 2.8 friction plate and probably a complete 2.8 Capri 5spd (ie. type 9) clutch kit. Kenpage's reply also backs this up.
Just my views, the clutch was replaced not many miles before I purchased my car.
