HELP ME! I need a decent car for our US Honeymoon.

My fiancee and I are going to the US on June 23rd for our Honeymoon, we're flying out to San Francisco and Flying back form Phoenix. We need a half decent car for the trip and I'm finding it impossible to get one. Hertz don't do the Shelby Mustang anymore, the Corvette is unavailable for that trip (It doesn't say why) and I have exhausted all the sites trying to find something interesting. MY fiancee is getting worried now that we haven't booked anything and just sent me a link to a Chevy Equinox, a fking SUV! Please help me, if you know any firms that will rent us a good car for our trip, I never imagined it would be this difficult.

I don't care what is any more as long as it's good to drive, I've been told convertibles aren't a good idea (We're driving through Death Valley in July - up to 55 degrees) but even an MX-5 would be better than a disgusting American Monster Truck.

Probably because it's a one way rental.

Your problem is that that you are doing a one way rental. So that means not all classes of vehicle will be avaliable to you as your destination won't be classed as a "tourist" location. Let's face it, it's not right? You will also have to pay a One Way Drop Off Fee, when I did Route 66 it was $500.

Best thing to do is to use Hertz's site (or whatever company you choose) and work as if you were LEAVING Phoenix. That way you can see which cars they hold in stock. Then you can make your actual booking from SF. Also join the free loyalty scheme, in the case of Hertz it's called the #1 Club and has a dedicated check-in desk plus discounts. Had to drag someone over last time but better than the 2 hour wait they had for the regular punters.

Death Valley is fine in a soft top, as long as you have the roof up and the a/c on. It's a blast though! Hope this helps.

Many years ago I rented a 1969 Mustang Cab from a company in LA called Rent A Wreck, which specialised in slightly older than normal hire cars and old Americana like the Mustangs and giant Chevys.

Might be worth a punt for sommat special and may have other offices on the West Coast.

Sorry I have just checked they don't do one ways and the they don't appear to do the classics anymore. Well it was in '92 when I celebrated my 30th with the Mustang.

I'd stick with Hertz and get a V6 Mustang convertible. It's a great cruiser. Hertz will also let you drop off in another state.
