I've got an annoying squealing noise sometimes on the rear n/s (I think) brake at about 30-35 mph, without braking. It emerged after the last service, but the dealer hadn't touched the brakes then.

After a couple of weeks, the dealer advised changing the pads (they were getting low), but this made no difference. They also said the brakes weren't binding.

The discs are lipped, though the dealer said at the service and subsequent pad fitting that they were OK. I have now filed down the outer lip, but the noise persists.

New discs????

Filed down the lip yikes Surely that would stuff up the balance of the disk, unless you turned it down using a lathe? The lip is no problem as long as the main part of the disc is above minimum thickness.

I find squeaks come and go with Audi brakes, whether they are new, old or in between.

If you have already replaced the pads and then replac ethe disks, you will have to replace the pads again.

Main dealer recommended the disc-filing. There's nothing adverse happening as a result. If discs are need that dealer should be able to machine pads flat. Maybe I'll leave it for a while and see if it sorts itself.

I bow to the superior knowledge of the main dealer, as long as it wasnt the one that told me my wifes Seat Leon is built on the same chassis as my A6!
