Yes, this guitar deity seems to be almost 'normal' after all.

Found this amusing clip on YouTube - some great moments, especially at 4:48 - how many times have we 'lesser' players thought just that (out of admiration/jealousy of course wink )

Nice reference to Jack Butler too

I like this vid of Vai describing the pressures of his audition for Frank Zappa.

hehe

For all his on-stage flamboyance and facial gurning, Mr Vai seems quite a level headed lad. Not something one would expect from someone with a good grasp of how the Lydian mode fits into the musical world.

All I get is 'This video is not available in your country' (I'm in UK). What's the title? I'll try it in search.

Search for Steve Vai Gemini Distortion pedal. It looks like an Ibanez sponsored thing so should be available?

vai was playing with the Zappa band recently on the beeb - recall thinking the female player was quite tasty -I' might have been drunk though! lol.

on one of Zappa's albums iirc Vai is credited with "impossible guitar parts".

I don't think it's gynaecological!
The was on "Ship arriving too late to save the drowning witch".

I think it went like.

Frank Zappa - Lead Guitar

Steven Vai - Impossible Lead Guitar.

Massive Vai fan, one day I will aspire to play like him.....Honestly laugh

In a way I miss having guitar battles with a now ex best mate, he was a Satriani boy, I was a Vai boy. Would start with one of us playing something, then would have a battle him using Satch techniques and me using Vai stuff, was good fun, but him being a Satch fan, it was fairly repetitive stuff over and over, where as I went for screwing the st out of the guitar and trying to get all manners of wierd and wonderfull noises, especially with my Bad Horsie 2 pedal
