Hi all,

A friend of mine has recently bought a 2001 (51 plate) Audi A3 1.8i and it only comes with a tape player.

The tape player does have a button marked CC/CD and I believe this means it can be used to control a CD changer in the boot.

He's asked me if the PH collective can confirm the part number, etc that he needs for the CD changer, where and how it's mounted and the connections needed to do so.

I am told that as you're looking into the boot, the CD changer is mounted on top of the sub type thing but have no idea what to tell him to buy and how to install.....

Over to the PH collective - can you help smile?

Cheers,

Neil

I have a 2000 A3 1.8T Sport and my multichanger is on top of the sub in the rear left wheel arch. If you open the boot and remove the panel on the left wall of the boot there should be the sub in there. The CD changer mounts onto the top of the sub. I think all the A3's were wired up to take them, they should have the connection just past the sub, might take a bit of digging but it should be there and quite easy to locate. Look where the parcel shelf pivot is and work left and downwards.

As for where to get a changer from then its worth a look on ebay, loads come and go on there. I think you can upgrade to an alpine unit but I think there's some sort of inline adaptor needed but I've never had then need/urge to change the stock item. .

Does the car in question have a BOSE Concert headunit in?, if it has then its the same as mine and should be a straight forward plug and play smile

No, it's certainly not the BOSE head unit - just a real standard looking tape and radio type affair (needing a code which, get this, Audi want £106.00 to sort out!!!!!).

Thanks for the heads up, i'll pass on to him and as he's popping over for the footie tonight - dig around in the wheel arch for the connector. Is it a standard 13 pin round connector we're looking for?

I'm not sure how many pin it is. Mines got a Concert system in it and I know that they're not astandard fit for anything, speakers etc are a funny ohm or something like that.

Might be worth an ask on AudiSport.net as they know pretty much everything you'll ever want to know.

Cheers

Drop these guys an email, they'll almost certainly be able to do you a kit to plug an aftermarket changer in.
