My appetite for topless cars went then with a nice Austin Healey Sprite Mk4:

Then the best car by far for ages my 1967 MGB:
Looks like these pix were taken in Brum area? Sutton perhaps?

Not one of those cars still exists it seems. I restored a Morris 1100 like that 10 years ago, a 1966 D reg example in the same colour (Connaught green) with light green trim. They are a cracking wee thing to drive, 1000 time better than a 105E and I prefer them to the Mini. Even 10 years ago it was remarkable for the way the suspension worked. It used to laugh at speed bumps. No wonder they were so popular when new.

I am not at all surprised the cars no longer exist. The MGB JOB2E was rotten when I sold it at 5 years old. The Tartan red paint had sunk into the primer and had the dreaded white spot disease. I flatted it with 1200 and then G3 and kept it in the garage till I sold it. Chap turned up to see it on a rainy Friday. I told him that I didn't use it in the wet and to come back tomorrow. The bloke tried to return the car 3 weeks later complaining of the paint. I of course said "It was OK when I had it!"

The Healey pics are on the drive at Marlborough Road, Castle Bromwich. The MGB pic is taken outside what was Contractors Plant, later Loves PLC and now a small industrial estate with Ace Drinks at the front. Dead opposite what used to be the old Hardy Spicer main offices.Chester Road Erdington.

After loving the MGB so much I found another, which I bought off Hardy Spicer Ltd, it being a directors car at 12 months old. Superb.

I kept this for a year or so and bought a Cortina 1600E, Breathed on by Broadspeed:

Somewhere in between my Viva HA van (one of 3 I had around this time):

And then my Capri 2000 GTXLR. Horrible car, under powered, over rated. Holed a piston. Fixed it and sold the thing.

ID the cars for sale in the 1930's

I'll have a go, but am open to correction!
From the front left: Lanchester Ten, Lagonda Rapier, Jowett (Ten?)
From the front Right: Triumph Gloria, Morris Eight, Standard Ten

My eyes aren't good enough to see further back...
I reckon the 3rd on the left row is a Singer Bantam.
Here is my best guess

2nd left Singer?
3rd left Lagonda Rapier?
4th left Singer?
1st right Rover,
2rd right Morris 8 - 4 seater tourer,
5th right a late 30's Ford 8 or 10?
6th right Standard?

Manorcom those photos are fantastic - and aside from the motors your roll neck / V-neck / drainpipes / brown boots combo deserves a mention for sartorial elegance, as does the 'one foot resting on the front bumper' stance - excellent effort sir! Ever done any catalogue modelling in your spare time...? biglaugh

Just found some period photos of my first three Minis which I'll bung in the scanner asap.

Meanwhile back at work 5 new Transit service vans (early 1970) The photo has faded. It hung on our office wall for many years.

A Transit beavertail:

One of two new Ford D800 tippers:

Dad changed his Daimler Sovereign (Jag 420 H reg) for a new green 2.8 XJ6 3 weeks after they were introduced. He kept it 13 weeks, had it on the road for 13 days, awful car everything broke. He sold it for a big profit to Bromford Garage. Thank heavens, and he got his old Daimler back. A couple of years later he bought this red 4.2 Auto XJ6, kept it for years, excellent car. With moms New Honda Civic Auto, a revelation to us as to how cars should be made:

Meanwhile my girlfriend bought this mini from a local farmer, without me being involved. 5 weeks later it failed the MOT and went for scrap.

Thanks for the compliments. I scanned these some time ago. They are magre in comparison to some I have seen.....But I am on a roll so more..
After the girlfriends mini debacle. I saw an 850 mini for sale round the corner. £50 spares or repair. I paid £35 for it, adjusted the cable on the slipping clutch and we ran it for several years. Here I am doing king pins after marriage a couple of years later sporting my decorating trousers and showing extra weight...All the beans on toast.:

But before we wed, I had achieved my ambition of a brand new MGB GT:

Meanwhile Parents decamped often to their favorite destination Malta, Dad went so often he hired the hire company's bosses Merc.

And the red mini was showing signs of imminent death a Mini Cooper joined the fleet:

Yes.....More to come, I'm only in the early 70's.
So I asked the girlfriend to marry me. (mistake) So my few months old MGB GT had to go to pay the deposit on a house. Her I am with forced smile the day I sold it in 1973:

I took a TR6 in PX and found out why they had a bad reputation. Cost a lot to get it tuned, which lasted a week or so. TR6 sold and MGB took in PX which thankfully sold quickly. I then bought a sensible car for a married man a Morris 1300GT:

On honeymoon in Malta with hired Escort, modern for Malta at the time. And that orange sweater again, UGH!:

So the fleet in 1974 at new house:

After a year or so with the 1300GT, the MGB GT bug bit again:

Then a family started and a sensible 4 seater beckons again:

By jove that winter of '77 was long and cold.

But there were compensations for a petrol head. Can you guess the new acquisition behind the Sprint

Wonderful stuff, I'm just loving all of this. The alloys on your B' GT look the business, I don't recognise them - were they an MG option or were they from another source...?

Still fancy a B one day, a nice early GT in dark blue with matching painted wires, a red interior and maybe lowered a bit with a few period baubles tacked on. A mate had a '72 GT in Harvest Gold a while back, it was his daily hack for a couple of years and I drove it occasionally, it felt very well put together and was a joy to drive.

Really great selection of cars there. The thing that strikes me is just how modern they all are at the time. I'm probably older now than you are in these pictures and I don't know of anyone who has owned a new car or even one a couple of years old. I actually drive a 72 MGB GT as my daily so I've loved all the pictures of Bs, especially the one with all the typical 70s extras, I can't see that rear wiper being hugely effective though. I've also never seen those alloys on an MGB before, I'd be interested to know what they are. Is that blue Mk3 Mini really a Cooper? It would have to be a Cooper S, but there is so little to identify them externally it's really hard to tell, great rare car if it is.
