found Mecca!...(maybe)
Bovington Camp opened up...

http://www.mazdaontrack.co.uk/help-for-heroes-bovi...

6.1mile circuit,

6.25hrs circuit use,

public road quality finished concrete surface,

roads not to be used by military for number of weeks before event...

150 (!...) car limit - each allowed onto circuit @ 10s intervals, for 1 lap at a time... then join the queue back at start line (nurburg routine??),

stated 100dB @ 4500rpm limit . . . but . .

£125 cost

...done some maths though...
average circuit speed 60mph (maybe bit low..) means only 36 cars on track at a time > 1/4 cars on track on at any time > track time per car = 1.5hrs...15 laps
..not alot for being there all day and £125 :-S hmmmm

Could be a lot of fun. Thats a lot of cars though and pretty expensive for doing a sprinting session with a long wait between each run. Doesn't look like there is any run-off either.

Lack of run-off/lots of potentially ruinous things to hit mean I won't be venturing on track this time. Might be going to watch though.

DC, you up for some Abingdon action sometime soon?

I can probably cast some light on this...

I really don't think we'll see 150 cars lined uplaugh We'll be working hard to minimise the queuing at the two peak periods when the track first opens, and after lunch. It's the longest track in the UK by some margin, track density is calculated at the same level as for a circuit open pit lane event.

No run off? There's loads... at no point is the track less than 12 metres wide. No-one is coming the other way, and you aren't going to get billed for armco a la Nurburgring. Drive it like an unrestricted Yorkshire Dales road or Touristenfahrten and you'll have the right idea. A lot of work has gone into track design to reduce the speeds in the relevant areas of the track, I'm not expecting people to fall off it much.

I'm surprised at the comments about price. This is half the price of a UK trackday, a unique event on a very special circuit...and for a very good cause. Should be a great day, you won't see a Mk1 GT40 howl past you spectating at Goodwood driving

Spectators - Are not permitted. Due to the nature and length of this circuit we cannot ensure the safety of untrained personnel roaming the track. However, viewing points outside the circuit are possible from the perimeter roads.

I really fancy this, but quite concerned with the amount of dirt on the track. I know the MX5's are gliding sideways through the dust, but I dont fancy that in a brand new car!

I dont suppose you are driving a few laps with a road cleaner the day before??
