I am seriously debating the purchase of a new 911, which will - on occasions - be driven in the UK.

Am I liable to encounter envy? You know, slashed tyres, scratched paint, smashed windows etc.

Can current UK owners comment?

Walter,

I think it all depends where you are going to drive it.

I bought a boxster last year and keep it parked on the road in London, no problems (X fingers) although I have a "covercraft" cover I put on if leaving it parked more than one night, and I'm more worried about supermarket dents than vandalism.

I was worried before I ordered it but then I passed three or four every day and thought it should be ok (plus having to drive round AFN chiswick just became too much, and once I walked in.........).

I was out of the country for 5 weeks last year and purple parking(heathrow) looked after it for me (£70)

I think there was a "porsche waanker" feeling in the late thatcherist eightes when all the city endowment policy salesmen were porsche hunting, but all that has calmed down a bit now. however Im still a bit careful where I park, and I try not to give anyone even half a reason to have a go.

As I said I think you have to look at the individual area.

Discrete colours sans spoilers are currently regarded as classier at the moment, and attract less attention (mine is dark blue basic model).

Hope this gives you some confidence

Not had a problem with mine, but it depends where you are leaving it, I live in Berkshire and travel into the city at least twice a week and the only problem tht I have encounter are the speed ramps in the car park with my front spoiler...

Can't agree with you all, wish I could. I live in a quiet cul-de-sac and two days after getting my gunmetal grey 964 C4 back from the body shop (some idiot decided to stop their audi by using the porsche as a brake) came out to find that a little b*****d had keyed it right down the just repaired off side. Still it's only another £665 out of my pocket and as we all know us porsche owners have more money than sense!!!

Walter.

Yes you will encounter envy. I know you like to drive with the roof down from previous posts - you'll be able to hear what I mean! I have a Boxster S and so can hear what the yells are and *some* of them are quite objectionable.

People will drive like dicks around you occasionally.

You WILL need to be damn careful where you park it. I have had not trouble with keys etc. but I put that down to not leaving the car anywhere dodgy. Ever.

The need to be careful, however, is outweighed by how wonderful the cars are though. Get one. But park wisely and watch out for the envious idiots on the road.

It's not a Porsche thing, just a nice car in general thing. An aquaintance had his M3 keyed once. Theres always going to be mindless social loosers out there in the less respectable areas. You can't live your life around the lowest common denomenator.

The cheaper option would be to go for a Chrysler PT Cruiser, judging by the Photo's, that and the Porsche SUV thingy are the same car anyway.

Or just get a large and ferocious dog, leave it in the car with the roof down. Then you can watch it ignore the scrote keying your car and savage a passing toddler instead
