If I accidentally get the car to do some of the good old drive-line-shunt-thing, I also get a sound like a bottle rocking too and fro in the boot. Anyone else get this or is something amiss under the car?

It had a recent 6k service with David Batty but I forgot to mention it to him. I can't think that it would be anything too serious. Loose exhaust mounting perhaps?

Thanks,

Rob

Could be loose suspension bits, knacked exhaust mount, loose diff. Best to get it chceked. Oh make sure there are no bottles in the boot as well.

I had similar problem & found a golf ball under the petrol tank.
There is a gap at the bottom right hand side where odd bits can get trapped and rattle.
Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Rob

Fuel tank sender unit clonking on the sides of the tank I think. Mine does it quite often.

I've noticed that a bit too recently - thought it was fuel slapping about in the tank.

NB I've just been aware that I can hear the fuel pump continually running (I never used to be able to) - presume this is normal and maybe an age thing? (Car has done 21K).

From what I've read here (worried about mine) "They all do that, sir" ... well it tends to be when it's hot but can happen at other times and mine does so every morning for a while.
IIRC it can be a sign of an imminent problem (minor to fix?) if it goes on *all* the time.

Thanks for the replies. I'll get it checked when it's up on the ramps having the silencing 'modified' in a couple of weeks.

I can only hear it when I the car does it's little kangarooing thing in first or second which suggests it's not something in the boot, but I'll check the golf ball/fuel tank idea.

Thanks again,

Rob

Definitely the fuel sender rocking back and forth hitting the walls of the tank. My chim does it and so did my other one. Every chim owner I know has said the same. Happy motoring m8
