Im sure i didnt dream it,
ages ago i was shown a website that if you entered your current favourite bands no matter how different the genres were, it created some fancy venn/spider diagram suggesting alternative music you might like.

im pretty sure it was that site that got me listening to stone temple pilots and kings of leon

Anyone heard/know of it?

Just tried it, and it seems a little out-of-date and very US-centric - a couple of my fave UK bands aren't recognised, and nor is a 1-year plus well-established US act.

That said, I love the links it gives and the way it presents them...definitely getting bookmarked.

Edit: After further messing around with it, I'm less convinced. It manages to get you from Front Line Assembly (hardcore industrial metal) to Dido and Madonna in 4 links. And the closest match to NIN is apparently Tool!!! confusedbanghead

A bit of googling* suggests I'm not the only one to find it lacking at times. Have a look, but FFS don't take its suggestions as gospel!

Can I also suggest http://www.last.fm - you can stream the music off the website (Firefox has a great 'radio' plug in (fire.fm) linked to last.fm!), and it has a 'similar artists' section which rates them in 3 or 4 levels of 'match'. Much more accurate than this other site is so far, albeit more low-tech in the interface. Might be fun to cross-reference the two...
