Hi all,

Has anyone got these fitted?

http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/4-inch-satin-black-head...

And have you got through a UK MOT with them on?.

I ask because I went to get my tracking adjusted today and the chappie who was doing it mentioned that he didn`t think these would be good enough to pass the MOT test, I have some months before it needs the test so I do have time to fit a different sort if needed. The car is a Westy btw.

I would think you would get through with them.

I have some, but not yet fitted.

Looking at the IVA manual it talks about the kick-up must not be to the O/S and where the horizontal line must be and where the kick-up should align but I can't see anything that says you have to have one.

I don't think they will pass, I nearly bought some for mine. The lights must dip to the left. There is a not on the ad saying they may not pass, in other words some test centres don't notice some do.

Hope that helps

You can buy them cheaper off ebay and other places.

I bought mine of ebay and the guy was from here. Think he is called Furore from Furore cars.

http://www.furorecars.co.uk/

Cost me £69.85 for 2.

Have put mine on but not MOT'd it yet. There are a lot with these lights and most people that i spoke to say they had no problem.

some cars have failed SVA/IVA and MOTS with these lights, but like others have said many get through both tests without problems ... you pay your money you take your chance - worst case scenario buy/borrow some normal ones for testing purposes then swop em back

Got some fitted to my Striker, passed the MOT no problems last month smile I have turned the lenses round slightly though to give a 'kick up' to the left .( easy 5 min mod ) Tester never even made a comment about them .

Yes thanks all for the comments guys. I left out some info on the first post on purpose ( just to get owners reactions), the chap said that the beam pattern was incorrect and that this would not pass a UK MOT. I like the idea of the `kick up` of the lenses.

I may well have the original HUGE ones that are standard, as I got a boxfull of spares with the car, A trip up to the loft here we come.

Just ordered a set from Furore Cars and have been assured that the flat beam is legal for UK MOT. Must add that I got a very prompt response from Russ at Furore so am vey happy. I will be fitting the lights to my Sylva Striker and getting rid of the large set that are currently on the car.

Is there any paperwork that comes with the lights, saying that they are legal?. Only if there is I wouldnt mind a copy. My MOT isnt till November so I have time to get this sorted out. I went for a second opinion at the weekend and was told the same thing - wont pass.

VOSA advise that a flat beam dip is allowed under IVA construction and use rules but could not advise if this would pass an MOT.

I thought they were the same organisation so that is another area where it becomes difficult for us mere mortals to comply with rules.

My line with the MOT man would be that VOSA pass it under IVA so it must comply with construction and use so what other criteria does it not comply with.

Good point Steve, having never been through the IVA process I cant comment , but this would be good test case for someone that has just passed . It does seem odd that IVA accept them and the MOT does not.

First let me state I have a vested interest here as I sell these lights (at a lot less than £48ea + P & P I might add!!! biggrin)
They should pass IVA or MoT without mods, however should you encounter any probs with a recalcitrant tester see the solution below:-

Single dominator headlamp

The headlamp pattern is described by the Manufacturer as flat & I was told by my SVA tester on 22/12/08 that a flat beam is completely legal in the UK, apparently it is the British/American beam pattern, however, most Mot (& SVA) testers expect to see a “kickup” to the left. If you look at the beam closely, it is in fact a shallow angle “V” which if you rotate the lamp by 15 degrees gives the required “kickup” for the standard UK beam pattern. Hence, remove the lens & file a new slot about 12-13mm to the right (when viewed from the front) to locate the lens. This is exactly how my Furore Formula One was presented for SVA test on 22/12/08 & the lights passed without any query whatsoever.

as can be seen by the certificate clutched in my grubby hand!

The following is taken from the headlamps section of the latest IVA manual
"Headlamps producing a flat dip beam are acceptable, and will not have to meet the aim criteria for “break point”."

Hope this clarifies the situation.

Thanks Russ, just what I needed to see, great news then. I wonder if MOT stations are required to keep a copy of the latest IVA manual?. If not I may just take one with me next time.

Love the car BTW, certainly different.

Just a quickie on the back of this. I have these lamps too and have just failed a Dutch MOT because of them. Although all that has been said for the UK tests is accurate, unfortunately outside the UK the testers can be a bit of a 'mare. Because the v Russ referred too is in fact quite weak the tester I was dealing with insisted it was because the bulb was probably 24v... at this point I stopped arguing the toss and took the fail. Be prepared to drop the other/old lights back on if you get an MOT tester who is being difficult and note down not to use that test station again.

PS, Sorry to raise an old subject wink

MOT and IVA are differnt...

anything passing IVA will pass MOT
anything passing MOT will not automatically pass IVA

correctly tested the mentioned lamps will not pass any of those tests...even certain mot-testers let them pass!!
