At about 11:30 this morning I was heading east on M27 by junction 1 as westbound 4 police Volvo estate cars were boxing in a grey Skoda Octavia trying to bring it to a halt.

Looked like the skoda was swerving around trying to punch its way out but i didn't quite see it come to a conclusion (it was tempting to swerve onto the hard shoulder and stop but i restrained myself).

Another police volvo was doing a rolling road black about a mile further back

Anyone know any more on this?

Will have to keep an eye out on "Road Wars" in a few months time.

I saw the end of this when they had stopped the Skoda in the outside lane. The driver got out and tried to do a runner and was tackled by 2 officers. The Skoda does suggest an exercise but not the chap trying to do a runner.

I saw 3 volvos parked on the hard shoulder on my way back to chandlers ford from hamble earlier and wondered what they where doing as i had already had 2 police bikes nail it past me up the slip road!

It was definitly a training exercise. All of the advanced drivers in Hampshire Police are currently being trained to carry out T-pac. The force has not had it until recently so there are lots of officers to train. You will probably see this quite often in the next few months whilst the main bulk are trained.

The skoda octavia was a fairly old one so i wasn't sure it would be new enough to still be an active police vehicle. Was also doing a pretty good job of swerving around quite erratically but like you suggest - maybe it was just a training thing.

The whole point of the training excercise is to recreate a scenario - if the "suspect" would run, the officer roleplaying the suspect would run. They do the same in training excercises for the MDP for sms and the like too. It wouldn't be a very realistic training excercise if they guy just gave up would it tongue out

I cant imagine for training someone would run from a stopped car...that would be silly. Although just for a laugh, I would.
You are holding up the entire carraigeway for the purpose of training, that type of thing can be done on a runway or similar. The tactics are practiced for the purpose of vehicle positioning, not fitness. It isnt hard to dump a police car and leg it. Unless you're fat.

In my old force, they used to run and then do a full on arrest to make it look real for members of the public.

If it was an VRS then it would easily outrun their motorway cars so it must have been a practise.

I don't know, I heard that they have a remapped 335d - nothing can outrun one of those. Then you have to factor in the added bhp from all the lights and graphics...

it might have been one of the first Octavia VR's - but it's not exactly a rocket ship is it! - especially with at least 2 or 3 burly blokes inside which this one did. I'm sure a couple of volvo T5's could more than keep pace!!!

a 335d - yeah now you're talking.
