Front number plate size
Discussion
I was about to post the same question.
I was considering ordering the 3/4 size plates offered by www.fancyplates.com for the front, standard size for the rear. Presumably this would free up more area of the grille and look a damn sight cooler.
Has anyone had any experience of problems with this small plate?
Is the numbering 3/4 scale as well? or is it regular but squeezed on?
Also...
Do www.fancyplates.com offer a translucent rear plate for rear illumination? Does it work? and if so is it available in the honeycomb finish or plain yellow? What looks best?

As far as i know the only legal way is if you have a number with less digits and cut down the plate leaving a 10mm border.
Or have a registration plate with thin letters or only two or one numbers - which is what I have by the way. Managed to reduce the actual size of my front place by over 1/3 by cutting it down.
Its still legal and still has the required font - therefore no problem.
This plate was about 10" x 4" from memory. I printed different sized plates out until I got the size I liked. These had only half inch or so difference between them or whayever.
Got from fancy plates (as mentioned earlier I think)
Quick and fast - ordered online and came virtually overnight.
But ... don't do as I did – add a little bit on each end if you want to attach it at the ends (About 1-1.5"). I forgot to and as you can see, ended up having to have a black and a white plastic screw ... depends what your reg is though.

You're right, it's entirely illegal. Technically these titchy ones are not number plates, they're signs. Hopefully if Plod does have a bored moment you can explain it's for overheating reasons - and produce a pukka one from the boot. Mind you, I guess they'll be looking for mobile phones today, not number plates... Next week, ham sandwiches... :sigh:
