busted my input shaft on my 350i on the way to lydden race track too see the big 520 wedge scream round the track,
i got home using only 4th gear, i got my self a good second hand box and though i be safe so i replaced the clutch and now i just got a phone call to say that the crank is showing signs off wear so that has been sent off for a grind it just goes on and on,
but am sure when i fire her up and cruise down the road it will be worth it

Normal thinking on this is to try to run in with minimum load on the engine. As per regular running up to 2500 revs when warmimg up then up to say 5000 but with as little load as possible so no hard acceleration, pay particular attention to which gear you are in, tyr to drive at 2500 to 4000, don't labour the engine, especially up hills but don't thrash it either. 1000-2000 miles should be enough. I would guess that you were probably thinking of doing something like that anyway? I'd also change the oil then; it should be OK but don't take chances.
