Never chip a car to get better fuel economy, it is a myth. It might technically achieve slightly higher, but you will never see it or notice it unless you take it to TRL.

The remap will be around 300 to 400 and the insurance will be another £50 extra, so where is the saving on 1 mpg if you can find it!!

As for the VRS nice car, just get a straight unmodified one with good service history and you should be okay.

Thanks for the respons. The main reson for chipping is power but just wonderd about mpg as most sites say you will see an improvment.

Use Custom Code rather than Revo, is my advice. I had one.

If you are in the south i can recommend a place to go.

I would say the opposite to confuse things, a custom map will give your more ultimate power, but it might end up putting too much strain on other components, clutch for example.

A standard Revo map was very good on my 130tdi, and it was quick easy and painless.

Depends how far you want to go with it at the end of the day. If you just want more power but arent planning on doing much else, do the Revo, if you want to mod further get a custom map, but you may have to remap again after additional mods.

I can recommend APD near Poole if you are down that way, they know their VW Audi stuff.

I am the other end of south but would do the drive down to Pool. I may do the air filter but not a lot more. It will be my every day drive. Any power gaine will be more wear but I wont be going to mad on a day to day bases. But I will probably sprint the car. It will nead the extra power so that I can beat my Father (BMW copper S) may be?

I didn't say what i said because i meant the guy would get more power from Custom Code, i said it as i had a Revo on mine and it wasn't much cop. My friend got Custom Code on his and it was far better.

A cheap bolt-on map will simply up the boost low down which gives you a big surge and makes the car feel faster. It isn't.

i stand by my original comments, the revo was significantly better throughout the rev range and did make the car faster. Not sure why you didnt get good results

You had a diesel. You are talking about a different car and a different map. The guy asked about the vRS, which both me and a friend had.

I have a custom map on mine and it is much better than a generic one.

coil springs are prone to snapping, wheel bearings, exhaust mounts, also if you do get it mapped the standard re-circ valves are likely to fail so best to change that too.

Dan -go here -www.briskoda.net - there's octavia fora and also technical info fora plus lots of how to and blokes that have done most of what you're asking about ( and even some techs that are trained on them ).
