Found some info on the 1.6, but not on the 1.8 (early one, looks like these came out in 1996)

Does anyone know the bhp/torque specs? Any other changes over the 1.6? Presume it's non VVC?

Secondly, what's the market like in high mileage ones? Guess anything has it's price, but would I have real problems selling one with say 50/60k on it?

TIA, Dan

Not VVC. Same as 1600 but 200cc more. Makes the engine a bit lazier. Will you notice? Maybe, maybe not. Though I think people generally prefer the 1600 SL.

Market? Your first challenge will be finding a good one. Buy on condition only. I reckon of the ones that may be available, once you've had a good look, you'll know which are worth more.

People can readily say that Superlights are 13k-15k, but you need to find a good one first.

Thanks for the reply, any more bhp on the 1.8 or just some torque?

The 1.8 is 140bhp, the 1.6 is 135bhp, so not much in it really. More torque on the 1.8 but i'm not sure how much. The 1.6's rev better apparently, although i've not driven the 1.8 so can't really compare. It would make sense though as the 1.6 is shorter stroke.

I went from a a 1.6SS to a 1.8 Superlight and to be honest you would be hard pushed to tell the difference. The 1.8 was slightly torquier and made a slightly deeper noise under load but very subtle.

I went for the 1.8 because of the mileage/spec/condition rather then the fact it was a 1.8 if that makes sense?

A great car, bare carbon and ali with interchangeable aeroscreen. Best Caterham I had.

Miss it.

Lots.

I didn't realise that was you in the R500 chap, it would've been great to have had a pax in the 7 as I haven't been in one for a long time now frown
