Have been on the Ultima Forum the last year, and lately, I've started coming over here. Actually, should have done it a long time ago.
My wife has a red C5 with torch red interior, and I have a silver C5

I think this photo says how I feel about Corvettes. In the pst we've had a C2 and C4.

I mainly use my C5 for long distance travelling, possibly in a way that can't be done in the UK since we have such long stretches of road. I live on the NorthEast coast and drive the C5 to Florida at least twice a year. I plan on 450 mile legs. That's when I stop for fuel, bladder relief, and hunger pains. When you have a car that's getting close to 30 mpg (American gallon), and averaging close to 70 mph, you can do that.
On that trip out West, I was driving 1200 miles a day!!

At a steady 60 mph on a 70'F. day, 30 lbs in each tire, the mpg would be 32, if not over depending on the wind.
I have automatic with the cruising gears in the rear end. 1000 rpm is almost 40 mph!!

Having spent the first 31 years of my life growing up in Toronto with Brits, the humor (humour), seems like home!!!
What does surprise me is the fierce commitment that a lot of Europeans have for American Iron, especially the Corvettes.

The Corvette guys in the UK and Europe are as dedicated a bunch of car nuts as I have ever come across. The REALLY good thing is that the majority use there cars as intended and are definitely not afraid to drive them hard. If you need proof you want to join the yearly pilgrimage to LeMans!!

It's strange how the grass is always greener on the other side of the ocean. As you can see by my profile, I've had my share of English cars in the past.
Now that we have a British car again, the Ultima (well sort of with a Chevvy engine and a German gearbox),

We've looked into the LeMans trip with the National Corvette Club, and it looked like a great trip, despite the hassle and the expense of shipping the car over. We had thought of doing the trip with the Ultima CanAm, but since it has no top, and very little baggage space, the C5 is a better choice.
A trip to Europe with probably my C5, (the wifes is very low mileage, and a scratch doesn't bother me)is pencilled in for 2004 on the calender).

Make your trip so you can take in the LeMans weekend, you will have a blast! I'm sure Nigel, aka vetteheadracer, will guide your path. There is usually a good turnout of Vettes, around 70 last year I think. The fun always starts on the drive down, the French roads are on the whole good quality and the police are not so numerous as in the UK.
I am looking foward to the LeMans Endurance series next year and will be going to Monza and Spa instead of the LeMans 24 hours.

I am planning to go to Le Mans next year and the Le Mans 1000km race at the Nurburgring in July as this coincides with the Corvette/Viper meeting there.
I also want to go to Monza and Spa providing they don't clash with other planned events.
So Jack, let us know your dates when you're planning to hit Europe and we will let you know what is on!

Which Viper/Vette meet is that Nige? I am going to try and do all of the LM Endurance races next year, commitments permitting, I know I can do Spa, Monza ans Silverstone but I am not sure what my travel plans are for the German round at the moment. It may be I can swap around and do the Nurburgring race instead.
Would you be interested in a track weekend on the full Nurburgring in May or Spa in August? I have an invite to do the Spa weekend from a customer of mine.

Something Jan got from Steve Kingshot said there was a Corvette / Viper meeting at the Nurburgring the weekend of 11th / 12th July next year which is also the time of the 1000km race as far as I know.
When I get more details, I will pass them on.
I won't be able to do Spa next year as I will probably be in Dallas for the American Viper Club annual bash with you know who.
