Just come back from Horizon Motorsport. Took my Leven cooling kit to be fitted and it was decided that the thermostat (74oC) would make the car use much more fuel. The otter switch was fitted, fluid refilled. The car ran for ages on the spot at eactly 90 oC. Coming home, temp went to 108 and beyond and stayed in the red till I made it back. Apparantly, the temp sender is sending incorrect values to the gauge and it isnt really that hot (they are going to try new resistors next week to make the gauge read lower.) This problem is really causing me problems, as I dont know if I should drive, even on cold days! Thanks

Try and get your hands on a infra red temp gauge (you point them at stuff and tell you the temp)

easy way to check and alarmingly good fun in the pub too

I don't profess to being an expert but could it be an air lock ?
My 450 had the kit fitted and I had a little trouble with the temp reading ( not as high as yours ), bled the system 3 times and now all okay.
Also I have not noticed any decrease in MPG, just take longer to heat up.

Hi Dan

How's sunny Telford...roof off today?

Some of the Tvr temp senders were calibrated to the dials i beleive so it may be that the sender is outputting an incorrect voltage which your dial is in turn reading incorrectly and showing 108c where it may only be 85-90. Although it would be a good idea to get it checked with the infra-red as mentioned before to be sure. If it is the case then change the sender or get a resistor put accros to bring the output voltage down to what it should be showing for the relevant temp.

Details of this are printed in Steve Heath's book - it gives a list of temp's and the respective output voltages.

Hope this helps.

Lee

May be see you around being fairly close. Any comments on Mike's service?

AS A SECONDARY BACK UP WHY NOT FIT A KENLOWE THERMAL CONTROL UNIT THEY ARE ADJUSTABLE & MORE ACCURATE THAN TVR DIALS. MOD -WISE ALSO DO SOME USEFUL TEMP CONTROL BITS?.
