I know this should be separated into the correct sub section but was hoping I'd get more response on here. A friend of mine's got a tomtom (not sure of the model but it's about 18 months old) that seems to be having a problem with it's memory card. She thinks he may have knocked the card that slots in the bottom and has been getting a picture onscreen of an sd card and a big red X. Thinking the SD card had become corrupted she purchased another one but is still having the same troubles.

I'm not fully au fait with sat nav technology as I've never owned one but is all the map data stored on the sd card or is the full OS on there? If anyones got any ideas of how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated. She's popping into Curry's with it tomorrow but I'm a little skeptical as to how much they're gonna be able to help!

Thanks in advance

Dom

The data is on the SD cars on the old ones. I think she will need to reinstall all the software as well, not just plug a new card in

Normally this occurs due to corrupt data or a corruption when downloading data. Try backing up your files (make sure you do back them up) and then reformat the card. Download data back to card.

If not then return to shop.

Cheers for the help, think she's gonna pop round with the unit and laptop tomorrow for me to have a play. So a full re-install with the new sd card is required?

I would try that first.

Probably not the problem but:
There's a reset button on tom toms, which you use a pin or similar to reset the system (it's somewhere on the back - could do this first then put the reinstalled card back - just may help?).

Any tomtom with an sd card slot needs the op system as well as the maps on the card to work. Connect the tomtom via mini usb to your pc and copy the contents of the internal memory of the tomtom to your sd card (sd card in seperate card reader). Reset with the card inserted and all will be fine.
