Now, I reckon that we'd do a lot better if we got Ron Goodwin to write it. Yeah, he's dead, but that's not a problem, because he's already written the 633 Squadron Theme.

I'd say Dambusters, but that's a shade obvious.

B*ll*cks to that, it's one of less than a handful of national anthems that stand out when played at sports match ceremonies (along with - sorry- the German and Italian ones) - have you heard the rest? No tension in them at all. Ours isn't particularly good either. What kind of anthem rambles on about someone who's 'from German blood'and 'has always honoured the king of Spain' when it's supposed to be an effing Dutch anthem?

You are right, Eric, and the French one is pretty good too (sad but its true).

Presumably the Dutch one was written when relationships with the other European nations were part of NL's governance ?

For sporting occasions where England play other home nations we should have something else as the National Anthem is all of ours - I'd go for Land of Hope & Glory, as a rousing song to combat Flower of Scotland and Land of my Fathers.

Jerusalem could be an option if a suitable section of Land of Dope and Tories doesn't fit into the required 2 or 3 minute time frame.
