how fast can you row 2000 metres ?

Now that was a weekend .... I was one of 30 doing a 24 hour sprint relay over the weekend.
30 people, split into 4 teams. 453km, average of 1:35.3 pace. New english record (prior was 392km iirc), and we have the record for 20-29 HWT male large team. Which is kinda cool.
It is also kinda tiring!

Bit of a result ... I'm trying to focus on the 500m for the moment after a sucky 1:35 at weekend. A mate suggested I try some 100m intervals and focus on short stroke technique.
Well, that seems to have worked. Did a few 100m intervals at lunch - 16.4s, 16.1, 16.0, then something went CLUNK in the erg at work. Grrrr. But my prior PB was 16.3, so well happy!

Thought I'd give this a go last week, managed 7.30 dead.
I will have to see if I can work up to the time above that I posted back in Sept 2009 Only 6 years older now!!I've been out of the gym for a number of years, but have recently bought myself a Concept 2 Model C, so should hopefully get plenty of practice.

10 x (1min on 1min off) last night. Good workout for 2k prep that doesn't take too long. Your average split shouldn't be a million miles away from your 2k average, so can give a good indication of where you are. I sat at 1:34.9, r31.
R31 - I struggle to keep good form on anything over 26, in the gym I regularly notice people doing R40+ so maybe it's just me. Brother D said:

All a bit quiet on this thread. I've moved house and sine not used the rower. Must dust it off and get back on it.
It is, isn't it ....I had a mad few months, training for a 100k row - alongside swmbo and a mate who was fundraising for the Talisker atlantic challenge (he's headed out to La Gomera today). On the day of the 100k we had the boat being used for the big row behind us, but the conditions conspired against us - it was warm with no wind.
Swmbo managed to do a marathon and a 10k, the atlantic rower "only" managed 48k. I made it to 66k, but my trainers (which had been fine up the marathon distance in training) were rubbing badly on my heel for the last 10k. But still, 66k at an average of 2:18 under less than ideal conditions isn't too bad.
Now back to "regular" training - strength work, training for the 500m. Managed to set a PB for the 100M at 15.9, and have somehow managed to get a low pull of 1:14 ....

I had promised myself that I would do a Half Marathon this year & although I've had a few setbacks, I finally managed it on Friday.

I'm well chuffed with doing it as it is a fair challenge - I found it MUCH harder than the 10k training rows I had been doing.
Full marathon? Maybe next year.....
