There are a number of things to consider when buying binoculars for motorsport:

They need to be light and compact. The weight of cameras, binoculars and thermos flasks doubles during the day,

You do not need great magnification if you are sitting in stands. In the region of 6 to 8 times is perfectly adequate,

As the racing is taking place during the day, massive object lenses are a waste of time, money, weight and size,

And get cheap ones. It is a fact that such things can go walkabout all too easily. It can be handy to make it look as if they are falling apart by putting some tape around them. You won't keep them around your neck all the time,

But the most important thing is to try them out. Go to somewhere like Jessops, there must be one near you, where they will have a selection and advice. Their staff don't (or didn't) work on commission so don't try and push the biggest earner.

More like 14 years.

Why did this thread suddenly re-emerge after such a long time gap.
