Discussion
From Independent this week - Mark Steel's column made me chuckle...

quote:
I won't have to pay Ken Livingstone's inner-London congestion charge, because I gave up driving through the capital when I realised that it had enabled me to perfect the art of swearing mid-sentence, without missing a beat.
I would be reduced to tears by those blokes in Mini Metros who drive with their hats still on in the car, wheezing along at nine miles an hour, except when they slow down and indicate to go round a leaf.
Surely the very worst is public transport ON raods.
- The 20 yr old bus, 100,000 miles past it's last service, belching smoke out, carrying fewer passengers than your average motorcycle. Notice in rural areas, how they stick rigidly to 35 - 40 mph even in national limits, in order to meet timetables that infelxibly plan routes based on urban distance times. Or is it just that 40 mph is top speed when engine tollerances are a few mm beyond rebore limit?
