2001 Golf GTI 2.0 115-Cambelt change?

I have just bought a very low mileage GTI(15K)

Not sure if it has had a combelt change(not collected it yet)

Should I get it done asap?

When should it be done,timewise?

I read on another forum that a mechanic can do a visual inspection on the belt.

Anyone have any knowledge?

Definately get in done if in doubt and change the water pumpw hile your there to save costs.

Should be changed ever 4 years or 80k on a petrol, whichever is sooner

Complete nonsense, there is no way to tell unless it looks brand new (changed in the last week or so), you cant tell if its been done.

I have the car now,and it appears not to have had a cambelt change,so will get it done asap.

PS: Can get it done for £150 inc water pump(cash only though!)

Had it replaced at main VW dealer in the end for £254 inc Vat.

Cheaper than independents.(next day as well in under 2 hours)
