Another slopfest. Can't stand Hendo, sorry. The rest of the card was abysmal.
I'm with you a little bit. I love the sport, but I didn't enjoy watching two past greats punch each other in the face until one couldn't get up anymore. Henderson has slowed down now and his grappling and wrestling were non-existent in this fight (and a few before as well). I hope it's not the case, but he seems to have progressed to relying on one weapon. It's one hell of a right hand, but for whatever reason he isn't setting it up like he used to.Shogun appears to have done the footballing equivalent of 'losing a yard of pace.' At this point, I'd rather remember his Pride GP days. I think the injuries have taken their toll and the damage he takes now is a result of those injuries restricting his movement.
IMO they're both examples of, to quote Forrest Griffin, "you don't quit fighting; fighting quits you."
Don't get me wrong I think Hendo should really retire, but that was one hell of a come back from him. He looked out of the fight and that punch re arranged shoguns nose big time. I agree that the new breed like jones who have grown up training in all aspects of MMa are moving things on and Hendo and Shogun aren't title runners any more. There is a risk the UFC are putting on too many fight cards now, perhaps there just arent enough exciting match ups to fill cards every 2-3 weeks?

Honestly, the more MMA I watch over the years the less interested I am in slugfests. There are exceptions (Jones/Gus for instance) but overall I'd take a more technical fight with no knockout over two tired guys winging punches at each other until one is lucky enough to land.
I think I agree with the latter part of your statement, it does look a bit sad when they are both knackered and feebly swinging awayI'll never get bored of seeing someone get plum KO'd though especially when its not expected
