Thought we could start a little topic about what can only be described as cheating by Scotlands Law enforcemaent Traffic Division, as a regular traveller all over Scotland would be handy to know what they are driving, the area and if possible the reg nos. so we can be aware of them!!

But what gaurentees do you have that the cops will behave! lol Has anyone ever wondered why we need unmarked traffic cars at all? Surley their only purpose is to catch speeders, rather than use marked cars which are a high visability deterrant and reminder to us all about the importance of road traffic safety! Personaly I think they are unsafe in that they confuse and upset people, no doubt justifying the OP here. Policing should be open, visable fair and just and to ensure saftey for society. Anything that may detract from that is to be accepted only exceptionaly. Rant over! Paul x

Here was me thinking it was just a way of guys who are into their cars being able to drive, at speeds of their choosing without repircusuion in cars they could never afford at the tax payers expense!! I've never understood why the cars they drive need to be so expensive, eg. new BMW X5?? Surely there could have been a more cost effective option than that!
Also the fact that they had to display and highlight speed cameras but can stil have unmarked cars, surely the rule should apply to both.
I have no objection to them convicting some little ned kicking the arse out his souped up everything but the brakes Corsa but someone in a well maintanined for instance CLK travelling down from Aberdeen getting convicted of 80 in a 70 on a clear day in the middle of nowhere is purely a cash genreating exercise!

As for the 'expensive' BMWs, how do you they are expensive - have you seen how much the force paid for them? It may surprise you but they are often the most cost effective option. Traffic police require need high performance vehicles (not just speed but also storage and towing capability), preferably comfortable since they spend all day in them, and perhaps with a decent resale value afterwards. On top of that, you'll find that BMW and Mercedes often offer substantial fleet discounts to the police, making them no more expensive than other non-premium brands.

Police don't pay full retail price for the cars,plus and it was brought up on traffic cops a while ago,what other car do you know of that can carry as much kit as an X5 yet still be practical and suitable for the job,certainly not a focus estate thats for sure. Ninja -?I appreciate that the poloice will not pay full RRP on these vehicles but I'm sure less expensive manufacturers like Mitsubishi & Toyota will offer just as good if not beter discounts as BMW or Mercedes and as i have found in the past owning such cars as Mercedes & BMW's and after speaking with Taffic Officer friends that these cars are no more and ofetn less reliable than thir counterparts. I spoke with him not that long ago about 2 unmarked C Class C320's that they had, said you couldnt drive 20 miles in them without them breaking down and therefore they never used them, complete waste on resource and budgets. And to behonest think you were missing the point of the form, all it was asking was a heads up on what unarked cars they are currently using in Scotland, apologies if that was diffiult to understand.

Guys there is an unmarked Audi A6 dark blue and its a 3ltr diesel which i have seen on the A1 and A720 in Edinburgh. watch out for that 1

Unmarked black Mercedes 4 door saloon Reg starts SK 07 had pulled someone as the M9/Newbridge slip joins the M8 west bound 18:00 tonight. This was about 50 yards after a marked car had pulled someone else. All the flashing lights brought the rubberneckers out in force causing an unnecessary queue  .

The company i work for supply number plates to lothian and borders police and the plates, and when u put the reg into our system they always come up on the system as UNKNOWN.
