My 57 plate Jetta 1.9 TDi DSG is due for a 20,000 mile service (time/mileage based service not long life) shortly.

Got a few quotes from 3 dealers in the West/SW London area:

Dealer 1. £320
Dealer 2. £295 (This dealer is in the same group as dealer 1! )
Dealer 3. £285 (Different owner from dealers 1 & 2).

Phoned back dealer 1 with quote from dealer 3, he quickly lowered and matched the price so I booked it in as they're closer to me. I'm just wondering is £285 a good price? Or am I still being ripped off?

Seems a little over the top.

I have just had a 20k longlife service on my Audi A8L 3.0TDI done at the main dealer and they only charged £340.00 in total.

What does the service involve? I don't think there's even a brake fluid change required until 3yrs, is there?

It's surely little more than an oil & filter change, and maybe pollen filter (which they probably will "forget" to change).

That sounds pretty good. The scumbags at Seat charge that for a 10K service as "Seat haven't adopted the variable servicing yet" even though they use the same fking engines as VW.

Dealer 1 advised me I need to change my brake fluid now, but dealer 2 informed me that this only needs to be done after 2 years (my car is 1.5 years old).

The service seems pretty basic, oil, oil filter, pollen filter and some general "checks". No doubt they will find something to bump up the price like wipers, new pads and discs.

How hard is it to check myself that the pollen filter has been changed?

I *think* the first change is 3 years but I might be confusing that with Honda. Most are 2yrs - what does it say in the service book? If it is 2yrs then it would be normal practice to do it while the cars in, but if you're going to do another 10K miles in the next few mths then leaving it would be fine.

Did dealer 1 include the cost of the brake fluid change in their quote - they don't ususally?

Just refuse all the extra stuff.
