Speed cameras on M20 (Maids), do they work?

Just started commuting along tat stretch of road, and most evenings the limits are set to 60mph. I thought the cameras worked the same as the M25 system, whereby if the speed limits are reduced (the overhead signs are on) then the cameras are operational. Given the amount of people that ignore the signs when they are on, I'm wondering whether the speed cameras actually work, or whether hundreds of people a day are getting fines through?

I don't take any notice of them anymore, as far as I'm aware they are advisory limits. Have been through them when the limits go from 60 to 40 then 60 then 40 again etc Bloody ridiculous if you ask me.

I've never been through them when they have been lit.

But normally, when they are unlit, +20 mph over the limit
seems to be no problem, ticketwise.

I suspect that they are like the M25 cameras when they
are lit: +10 mph over seems to be no problem.

Of course, the logic of putting speed cameras on the
safest type of road by far is another debate ...

The limit is only a limit if it has the red ring around it, you will notice that at the moment they are just the numbers with nothing else. As far as i know they are not yet active.

Word of warning though should you ignore an advisory limit and crash at a speed in excess of the limit shown it could be used as evidence of careless/ dangerous driving.

Ah, cheers for clearing that up.

I'm not really interesting in going any quicker than 60 anyway, the amount of traffic at that time means you can rarely go much quicker, and most evenings it's nice to have a relaxing drive home rather than going hell for leather!

My snooper always alarms, and most motorists tend to slow down to the NSL. Only get a few BMW and Audi drivers thinking they are exempt from Road Traffic Law who go flying through. The last time i saw them do it though there was an unmarked Focus ST in black with blues and twos in its grille giving it big licks after them

I've seen that Focus ST pulling someone over on the clockwise section of the M25 at Clacketts, wondered whether it was Kent's or Surrey's.

as far as i know surrey has a few ST's norm 5 door ones.

An Educated guess says that if Essex and Surrey have them.... so do kent lol

I had an ST with plod in stop outside my house... turns out they were doing routine checks... a VXR had been stolen and they were just ANPR'ing the plates. They were obviously confused when mine came up HM Gov/MOD lol, luckily i was at hand to help!

Means they are reacting to the vehicles. Some nights its like a lightening storm down there.

I phoned the highways agency yesterday to find out when these things are active, they dont know anything about them, does anyone know if they are in operation yet?

they'll be operational when they feel like it! (and when the red circles appear round the speed limits)

and I suppose flash testing is just testing the camera and speeds but not record the data for prosecution. Strange how the consultation hasn't been published yet but they are carrying on...

You can't fart for camera's these days - George Orwell's 1984 ring any bells here. I would assume the red circles will be up to show they are operational in certain traffic conditions....like the M25 and the M42 around Birmingham, NEC area.

Tell me about it..I was coming back from Bristol yesterday and join the M25..its on a consistent 50mph which is fine to keep traffic rolling, then down to 40mph at M3 and then upto x2 lots of 60mph then down to 40mph, then back up and then back down - WTF is going on????

I believe these have recently gone live. I saw flashes last night from what appeared to be gatsos mounted behind the sign gantrys between jct 5 and 7. I do not know if they are fixed at 70 or not. What a drag
