Hi All,

I'd be grateful if someone could offer some advice on a faulty satnav system on a friend's XK. The unit is failing to locate satellites and unfortunately recently out of its warranty period. The local Jaguar dealer says it is an internal fault in the nav module. Most unfortunately, they're quoting £1,700 for a new unit to replace it. Does the unit really need replacing? Are there companies around which might repair it more cheaply? Apparently Jaguar is out of stock of new units, indicating that it might not be an isolated problem.

Many thanks for any advice.

Can't help directly, but if it is the Navigation Module, I believe this is a separate unit that wires into the centre console. The S Type units were going on a well known popular auction internet site for around £900 from various dealers and I imagine that the unit does not differ much (if at all) across the whole Jaguar range.

Therefore if it is a whole module replace, your friend can probably source and have it fitted for cheaper than £1700, even a module removed from a write off/insurance damaged Jaguar etc...

Although the dealer has stated this, it could be a less problematic issue. Perhaps it's worth checking the GPS aerial connections, maybe intermittent fault there. Not sure on the antenna location, as not a Jag expert. You may find a suitable Jag forum with a little searching who maybe able to offer more help! :-)
