As part of the service on my 5 Series the garage (not a BMW specific garage, but a well trusted one) are offering an Engine flush. Its having the major service, oil changed, everything, is it worth doing? The car will probably have around 117-118k by that time... thanks.

To be honest I intend to change the oil every year or 10,000 miles, whatever comes first so I think that will be enough.

Not worth it on an engine of that vintage.

It'll remove any deposits that are acting as a seal and you might find an oil slick on your driveway.

Best idea is to stick to the schedule and swap out with good quality oils.

I wouldn't bother with an engine 'flush' the only thing I sometimes do when servicing an older car that I don't know the service history is when I have drained the oil re-fill it with some cheaper oil and run it for a few minutes, then drain that and change the filter and re-fill with the expensive oil.

These 'deposits' that supposedly 'seal' up your engine.

Sounds like bks to me.

'Tis true. Carbon deposits and the like. If you use engine flush it will remove all these deposits and the new oil will get places that it shouldn't. As engines pile on the miles the slacken up, these deposits seal up the difference in the tolerances of some seals within the engine. Oil slick on your drive is not wrong.
