Me and two mates left Worcestershire at 5.30am last Wednesday headed down through worcester on the A44 to Rhayader and we went to the Elan Valley. Headed down the Aberyswyth Mountain Road to Devils Bridge then a boring main road to Lake Clewydog where we took the scenic route to the top of the dam and the the scenic road behind the lake which is something that resembles a rally stage (had the car on 3 wheels at one point!!:O )

Then headed to the Machynlleth mountain road which again was sublime. The views alone! As it was a nice day we took the coastal road which snaked it's way down the Mawddach Estuary to Barmouth then up the coast past Harlech to the stretch of road which appeared on Fifth Gear when they test drove the new Scirocco along another estuary but unfortunately we got stuck behind a long and wide vehicle.

Then it was off up Aberglaswyn Pass following the narrow guage railway around the hills, going over and under it, taking the hairpin on the inside and throwing it through the bridge, round the back of the lake with the only overtaking opportunity i had to overtake silly dutch tourists and then stopped off to view a remarkably clear Snowdon Horseshoe by where you could see the top for a change!

Next road.

Llanberis Pass This road is briliant when you consider what your driving between 2 of the highest mountains in Snowdonia with the biggest rocks/boulders you've ever seen on your right. Going to and froe with each sweeping bend.

After going through Llanberis we turned right onto the 50mph stretch towards a little roundabout and then down towards Briatannia bridge going down some twisties which look like there from a alpine road in the Alps with the fir tres high and each side and the traditional balck and white old barriers. we went to RAF Valley to watch the jets and eat our lunch for a bit before blasting back across Anglesey with RAF Hawks flying not very high above us up to the A5 pass which again is brilliant. (more fun the other way though) Then another hawk screamed towards me at 500mph back towards Valley.

Wanting to do some roads I'd not done before we went south on the A470 towards Blanaeu Ffestiniog then to Trawsfynydd past the nuke station and turned left onto the A4212 (brilliant), B4391 (sublime) and the b4407 which Clarkson was on in the Vantage V12 IIRC but bumpier than last time i was on it i swear! then A quick lap of the triangle.

I've done the triangle as a passenger and drive about 8 times now and this was the best by far. The foresty bit on the right hand side... after my mate had crossed the cattle grid he was gone and i didn't see him until the very end of the triangle where he was waiting for me! We headed home via the A5 and Horseshoe pass, down to the M54, M6, M5 and then A38. About 500 miles in total in a day and it was worth every single penny!

I'd reccommend the route to anyone in any car. I just can't wait to do it in somehting with a bit more oomph!
