Hi,
I have been very irresponsible and was caught speeding on the A303 a few months ago.
I have had a summons to the Aldershot Magistrates'
Court on the 14th September.

I was doing exactly 100mph in a 70mph zone so am concerned that I may loose my licence (I have 3 points already)
As I have a baby on the way and use my car to drive to work this would be a problem.

Should I attend in person? As im advised that they can ban you in you are not there in person....
Has anyone else been in a similar situation.....????

OR should I go as far a hiring a solicitor?...

What would you suggest in order to minimise the penalty?
Thanks

Think of the children wont somebody please think of the children

100mph, at a guess possibly 6 points and a fine minimum, or could be a few months ban. Not a legal eagle, but if you do go to court, dress in your sunday best, make yourself look real smart accept that you have done wrong and take it on the chin

I'd agree: wear your best suit, be very sorry, say you need to drive for work and you can't lose your job because you've a baby on the way.

Hope for 6pts and a fine...

I would definitely attend in person. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you get a ban, but if you seem like you're taking it seriously and they think you aren't going to do it again, it will probably be a short one.

I would expect to get a short term ban of 2 to 8 weeks and a fine of around half to one weeks wages.

You will not get points on your licence if you are short term disqualified.

The alternative would be points (between 4 and 6), fine and no ban.

I think the "having a baby" is a bad excuse, you'd run the risk of having that one thrown back at you in an "expectant responsible fathers dont take such stupid risks" fashion.

I wouldnt drive to Aldershot either if I were you, or if you do make sure you have someone with you to drive you home. Sorry, I wouldnt expect good news on this one

Good luck mate,

I'm waiting on a summons for 97 in a 70 (Scotland)

I was advised to expect between either

4-6pts + fine
or
7 to 28day Ban + fine

Let us know how you fare

What's the guideline level for possible ban these days? I thought 100 in 70 would be borderline (but I know nothing!)

In a 70 limit ?
91-100mph = 4-6 points or 7-28 day ban
101-110mph = 7-56 day ban or 6 points

Fine + victim surcharge + (nominal) prosecution costs in both cases. Reduced for early guilty plea and any mitigation. Increased for any aggravating factors.

When's the baby due?

If it's 2/3 months away, don't tell them that otherwise they could say, ok we'll ban you until the due date biggrinbiggrin

As small as possible, I would hope. There shouldn't be any penalty IMHO. Good luck, Tom.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

that is pretty much how it will go for a first offence. Fine will depend on your income too so this is one time you want to hope your not too rich lol

it's a great road that A303, I used to drive to from London to Cornwall and back with a 5 am start deliberately to fully enjoy it so to speak.

Won't say my record door to door

I was just caught on the A3, 89 in a 70 and got three point and £60.

Have a look here and it will give you magistrates 'guidelines' to the probable number of points and fine you can expect.
