i came across this beaut of a road when i accidentally missed my junction on the M6 and got of at 39, i hung a left and a left again which put me onto the A6 to Kendal i was swiftly over taken by a 911 carrera and soon realised it was a road for a heavy foot!

Any one else powered down here?

Used to use this road before the M6 opened - loved going south as I could get over the ton in my 1964 Vauxhall Victor.

Used it recently - it's not lost its magic.

Yep fantastic road! Good alternative to the M6 if you've got a bit of spare time - just watch out for camera vans as they like to lurk on this road.

Some pics for those who haven't been on it: http://www.rural-roads.co.uk/shap/shap1.shtml

Yes my mate was done for being a trivial amount over the 50 limit, for a van (by weight)

Lovely B & B along there too, called the Low Jock Scar, about two miles south of Kendal Caravans.

I've done this a few times - i recall it's got some weird dual carriageway type stretch on it.

Just checked that link.

There's a 3 lane bit with no lane indication as to who has RoW on the middle lane. I think it's basically first come first served!!

Good old suicide lane. Used to be common, now being phased out. The Penrith - Kendal A6 has long been a favourite of mine, but as said watch for cameras.

There is a Porsche Centre in Kendal, so they've got a good demo route on their doorstep!

Fab piece of road. Drove up there at midnight a few months ago and raced a Cooper S all the way from Skipton to the M6, fantastic piece of road when it's quiet.

There's at least one stretch on the A6 which has 4 lanes (no central reservation) as well. It's a lovely road but has alas been ruined by Cumbria Talivan...
