Following my recent post on Black Ice Defender, I lost faith in it and binned it. Downloaded a free copy of Kerio Personal Firewall and so far it is the canine's cojones. It does sweet FA without asking; once you've set a 'rule' it never seems to miss, and judging by the length of the log file there are some pretty determined people out there trying to ransack my PC! Why the hell they mostly seem to be in France, Holland and Russia is a bit of a mystery though....

Because they have lax laws on tracing and prosecuting people for perpetrating computer crime.....You will also find that the people doing it are very likely not in these places, they have just compromised a PC in these countries and are probably hopping through several hosts before using one to scan. You would be pretty foolish to scan from your own PC as it is easily traceable.

If you think you have problems, I am currently sat here monitoring the logs from several hundred firewalls (and not from home user PC's !!!).
